The Middle

The Middle

The myth of the middle:

Anything in excess is detrimental. Too much sleep is bad for you because you become unproductive and unreliable. Too much joy makes pain very hard to handle. Too much pain makes life worthless. Too much money eliminates challenges and plunges the average human into desperation and an endless search for peace. What therefore is the middle? Where is the spot of peace and joy? Where do we have just enough?

The journey to the middle defines life. There is a school of thought that we are losing our loved ones to suicide because we have removed so many obstacles in life that htey cannot find the middle. The middle has drifted and with it, the joys of its search. When older people talk of their lives, they always cite the joys of overcoming their challenges. The joys of going around bullies and the joys of dealing with overbearing and strict parents. How do we know when we have found the perfect middle?

Well, this is where I disappoint you! There is no real middle, just a mental middle you need to find and stay within. We need cold to recognize warmth, we need sadness to recognize joy, we need challenges to recognize wins. Therefore, as individuals, the trick is to find fulfillment in the search for the middle.
